Children's Museum

Lewis and I visited the new Madison Children's Museum for the first time last week. There is a ton for even the little guys to do -- drums to bang, slides to ride, water to splash in! But I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that Lewis' favorite activity was sitting by the window, chewing on a block and watching the cars go by...

7 Months Old!

Lewis has done it again -- he keeps getting older! And bigger... And cuter... And smarter... And faster!
Over the past month, Lewis has had his first christmas, gotten his first illness and learned how to crawl and clap!
He also continues to add to his vocabulary with "ma-ma-ma" (usually while whining), "da-da-da" (usually while playing), "ba-ba-ba", raspberries -- all of which are more pleasant than the high pitched squeal and fake cough he was using most of last month.
He has really taken off with the crawling and I've had to step-up the baby-proofing. Lewis, like all babies I'm sure, has a knack for finding the one thing in the room that isn't child-safe and high-tails it over there as soon as you turn around.

Lewis loves to eat and continues to eat pretty much whatever is put in front of him. He was not a big fan of the jarred baby food chicken -- but I can't really blame him. Have you tasted that stuff? Once I made some homemade chicken, he was all about the meat =) He also is getting pretty good with finger foods. His favorite are the "Free-range O's" (i.e. the cheerios that fall on the floor and are later found and eaten).

All the good eating is reflected in his growth -- 19 lbs 8oz and 27 1/2 inches long!

I haven't been able to convert my videos to a format compatible with posting on the blog yet -- but if you'd like to see Lewis in motion go to YouTube and search for 713crank.

Surviving our first illness

Lewis caught his first cold last week which turned into croup. No Fun! On his worst night, he would only sleep while being held. I was up with him at 2am when I realized how cold it was in the house. That's right - to top off the night our furnace went out! Luckily a very nice repair man came out at 3am to fix it. The above picture is him the next morning -- fleece PJs, sleep sack, blanket and hat!
Lewis is starting to feel better, but now he's passed along the illness to me. The joys of parenthood I guess.

Lewis didn't let the illness hold him back though. Over the weekend, he started clapping and crawling. Not at the same time yet, but I'm sure that's coming.
